Dr. Donald Marvin Mogerman of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri passed away on November 8, 2019 after a lengthy battle with dementia. He was born May 3, 1933 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, eldest child of Sol and Golde Mogerman. Dr. Mogerman was raised in University City and attended University City High School where he served as first chair trumpet in the school band. Mogerman attended Washington University undergraduate school and went on to medical school in Kansas City, where he met his future wife, Texas-born Sallie Ann Day. After his internship and surgical residency in Columbus, Ohio and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, they made their home in Troy, Missouri, where they raised four children and where Mogerman built a successful medical practice of more than forty years.
Mogerman served on the Board of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACOS), which required travel across the country to train and evaluate young surgeons. He capitalized on this opportunity by establishing an externship program, through which he succeeded in attracting senior medical students as a means to build and to grow the Troy Hospital – the only medical facility in Lincoln County, at the time. Troy Hospital was later purchased by Mercy Medical and is now known as Mercy Lincoln County. Mogerman’s office building, included in that acquisition, remains a part of the network that continues to provide medical care to the greater community.
Dr. Mogerman served as a Flight Surgeon in the Missouri Air National Guard and was a licensed pilot in his own right. He is survived by Sallie, his wife of 60 years; his children Cary (Dee), Jaime Dodd (Charles Faussete), Cathy Stotler (Doug) and Jordan (Desiree); his grandchildren Jacob, Sam, Ben, Savannah Danielle, Rachel and Madeline; and his great grandson, Sol.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 10 at Pitman Funeral Home in Wentzville from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mogerman was a lifetime member of Temple Israel, where services in his honor will be held on Monday, November 11 at 1:00 p.m. Following services, shiva will be held from 3:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 12641 Royal Manor Drive in Creve Coeur. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
