David Daily passed away on August 30, 2019, at the age of 80, at Abbey Senior Health, in O’Fallon, Missouri. David William Daily was born to Robert and Norma Daily in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest of four children, with three dear sisters. Dave was the beloved husband of Barbara Daily (Grabowski) of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, and the loving father of Mike and Tom Daily. He graduated from Christian Brothers College High School and Parks College of St. Louis University. After college, he worked as an aeronautical engineer, including a position with McDonnell Aircraft Corporation. Dave then entered the Air National Guard and was based in St. Louis, where he flew the F-100 Super Sabre, and formed deep friendships with his fellow guardsmen. He raised his family in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and worked for the Illinois National Guard air refueling squadron, and as a commercial pilot for TWA, and later, for USAir. In 1990, he moved to Lake St. Louis. He retired as a captain from USAir in 1999. During his military career, he served 23 years as a pilot in the Air National Guard and Air Force, retiring as a U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel. Dave enjoyed travel and time on his pontoon boat with Barb, and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He enjoyed swimming at the YMCA, golf outings with his childhood friends, annual trips with his buddies (“the Rowdies”), and cherished his visits with his sons and their families. He enjoyed his sweet animal companions, including his dog, Hobbes, and his cat, Priss. Dave was a kind-hearted person who celebrated life whenever he could. He had an easy laugh, always enjoyed good conversation and a good beer, and cared deeply for his family. We will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his two sons, Mike (Kathleen) Daily, of Cable, Wisconsin, and Tom (Shelley) Daily, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; grandchildren, Andy Daily, Adam Daily, Jessica Daily, Tyra (Ryan) Wendt, Dane (fiancée Dulcie) Wald; great-granddaughter Taryn; two sisters, Patricia Grimes and Carmen Dvorak; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives, as well as his extended family at Abbey Health. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert M. Daily, mother Norma S. Daily (Sherder), and sister, Joan Carmody.
