Obituary
June Emma Berkemeier passed away on November 29, 2016, at the age of 86. She is survived by her six cousins, Arlene (Michael) Orf, Jane (Ted) Nadler, Opal (Wayne) Halcomb, Larry (Teresa) Paul, Rose (Bob) Fink and Melba McCarver. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Alma Berkemeier nee Holtmann; sisters, Ruby and Ruth Berkemeier. June Emma Berkemeier was born on January 10, 1930 to Paul Peter Berkemeier and Alma Maria Holtmann Berkemeier. She was baptized on February 2, 1930 by Pastor Edgar Wein. Her sponsors were Emma Holtmann and Nelda Goltermann. She was confirmed on April 2, 1944 by Pastor Edgar Wein at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Melle, Missouri. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 23:6, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of my Lord forever.” Her father passed away on March 4, 1944 and her mother passed away on December 23, 1977. She had one sister, Ruby, who passed away on April 7, 1987. June spent her younger years caring for her sister, Ruby. June and her family lived on a farm in the Cappeln area and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She had eight years of schooling. When her parents started aging, they sold their farm and moved to Wentzville. June’s dad, Paul, passed away and then her mother, Alma. Ruby was later placed in a nursing facility in St. Charles. June never drove, so she relied on family and friends to take her places. She moved to O’Fallon and then to St. Charles, and later back to O’Fallon. June began experiencing failing health and was placed at Jonesburg Nursing and Rehab on July 17, 2016 to receive care. On November 22, 2016, she was admitted to St. Joseph West Hospital in Lake St. Louis. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
