Helen Marie Schmidt nee Whitaker passed away on October 26, 2016 at the age of 81. She is survived by her son, Steven J. Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" H. Schmidt; parents, Oscar H. Whitaker and Helen A. Whitaker nee Berger. Helen was a member of West Plex Community Church. Helen was a "Mother Nature" woman who loved animals of all kinds, domestic or wild, her garden and her outdoor world. Most recently she cared for two special dogs and one cat as she lived in her country setting with a pond that was home to many geese, ducks and deer. A retired bookkeeper from Emerson Motor Company in St. Louis, she kept her accounting skills honed by working for First Step Back Home, Inc., for several years and helped with auditing of records at her church. Helen loved to sing and had a beautiful soprano voice. She was an active member of Westplex Community Church in Foristell, MO and served on the music team several years ago. She was an avid seamstress as well, having crocheted and knitted lots of decorative pieces for friends and family. She and her late husband Bill enjoyed traveling and camping all over the United States. Helen was a very dedicated mom to her only son, Steven, of St. Peter's, and hosted him for entertainment and church nearly every weekend that he was able to come out to her place. She was a strong and independent woman who was always capable of taking care of herself. She loved the Lord and studied His Word and sought His guidance in her daily life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
