John L. DeRossett, Jr. passed away on July, 2, 2016 at the age of 88. He is preceded in death by his parents John L. DeRossett (AKA Red) and Nora Mae DeRossett nee Ellis. He is the beloved husband of Ruth Ann DeRossett nee Norris, still at home. He is survived by three children, John “Buck” (Monica) DeRossett III of Gorham, IL, Joyce (Luis Molina) Martinez of Fulton, MO, Frances (David) Rose of Herman, MO; stepdaughter, Beverly (Rick) McKane of Alton, IL; four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren and many half brothers and sisters. Mr. DeRossett joined Merchant Marines at a young age in 1944 for 18 months. Later he was drafted into the army from 1945-1947. He was employed by Granite City Steel in Illinois for 34 years. After he retired from the steel mill he started “DeRossett Tractor Sales and Service”. He and his wife, Ruth Ann, ran a very successful business repairing and selling early model Ford tractors for about 10 years, then retired. He loved to garden, travel, feed the birds, do yard work and cook. He loved his family and family dinners, fish frys especially. He belonged to Community of Christ church in Wood River, Illinois. He was a member of the American Legion Post #122 and the V.F.W. in Warrenton, MO. He will be missed and loved by all who knew him. A visitation will be held at Pitman Funeral Home from 11-1:00 pm with a service to follow at 1:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at Community of Christ Church in Wood River, Illinois on July 16 at 1:00 pm.
