Obituary
William Austin McNair, 13 December 1935 – 22 February 2016. Bill (Billy) was born in Tuckerman, Arkansas in the middle of the depression to Hazel and James (Buster) McNair. He was to be the second of five children and the eldest of two sons. He grew up on a farm around Tuckerman picking cotton. He joined the Air Force upon graduating from High School in Tuckerman. He trained to be aircraft electrical mechanic while serving 4 years in the Air Force and worked in that industry upon discharge from the service. He married Bernice Snyder in 1960 and they traveled the country for several years working on planes before settling in the St. Louis area in 1964 and going to work for McDonnell Aircraft. With farming in his blood he couldn’t resist buying one in Wentzville in 1965. He worked both jobs at McDonnell and the farm for about 5 years after which he decided to tackle farming full time, raising soybeans, hogs and sheep. In the early 70s, after completely remodeling and adding on to the 1902 Farm house they were living in he decided to damn up the valley on the farm and create a lake and campground doing most of that work himself. His love of airplanes led him to get his private pilot’s license after exiting the military and eventually bought ownership in a Cessna 172. He enjoyed flying all around the area. He was an avid pilot and loved being a grandpa. He will be sorely missed.
