Brendalee T. Burdess, 65, passed away peacefully in her Pensacola, FL home of twenty-three years on a beautiful morning, Friday, November 13, 2015 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Brenda was born December 20, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri to Bruce Sr. and Ebba Clemonds. Raised in St. Louis as a child, she spent her teenage years in O'Fallon, MO, where she graduated from Fort Zumwalt High School in 1968. A true patriot, Brenda enlisted in the United States Navy in November of 1968 for a three year commitment. During her Navy years, she served as a Hospital Corpsman at the Naval Hospital, Philadelphia, PA where she met her husband, Richard. Brenda and Richard were married in St. Peters, MO on January 9, 1971 and have been inseparable for nearly forty five years. A dedicated military spouse, she followed Richard, a career U.S. Navy officer, around the globe for twenty-eight years during which time they were blessed with two children, Angela and William. During these military years, Brenda also completed several academic milestones. She graduated in January of 1975 from the Pacific College of Medical and Dental Assistants, San Diego, CA, as a Certified Medical Assistant. In May of 1989, Brenda graduated from the Leeward Community College, Pearl City, HI, with an Associate of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts. Then in May of 1992, Brenda graduated, Salutatorian, from the University of Maryland at Baltimore (UMAB), Baltimore, MD, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Graduating with high honors, Brenda was accepted into Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing and earned admission into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi for academic achievements. Brenda started her career in nursing as an Oncology Nurse at Baptist Hospital, Pensacola, in the summer of 1992 after arriving with Richard, who had been assigned to duty at the Naval Air Station. She retired from nursing in the fall of 2012 from the Woodlands Medical Specialists after twenty years of nursing. Brenda will certainly be remembered for her compassionate care by the hundreds of Pensacola area cancer patients and by the physicians she served with honor and dedication. Brenda is preceded in death by her parents and her only daughter, Angela Suzann Burdess-Thieler. She is survived by her husband, Richard; son, William Burdess; four grandchildren, Leah Thieler, Alexis Burdess, Brianna Burdess and Matthew Burdess; seven siblings, Aldona Clemonds, Cecelie Hull, Vermilia Gresham, Darlene Callaway, Ebba Bearce, Bruce Clemonds Jr. and Roland Clemonds; and numerous nieces and nephews.
