Patrick John Hopkins passed away on November 16, 2014 at the age of 68. He is survived by his mother, June Hopkins nee O'Dowd of Creve Coeur, MO and the late, James W. Hopkins; brother, James D. (Chris) Hopkins & sister, Sharon (Patrick) Holden. Patrick enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on April 21, 1966 and was honorably discharged with the rank of CPL E4 on March 26, 1969. His service included a 1 year and 14 day month tour in Vietnam where he served as a radio operator with Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment. In early 1968, he was a participant in the largest battle of that war -- the 77 Day Siege of Khe Sanh serving with the 81mm mortar section. Among his military awards are the Combat Infantry Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Rifle Marksman Badge. He served in operations after Khe Sanh including Pegasus, as well as others. He was a member of the Khe Sanh Veterans Association where he was a generous contributor to the Khe Sanh Veterans Scholarship Fund. Patrick was also a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Creve Coeur. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
